Happy Friday # 1.7: Looking For Trouble

They see me rollin' They hatin'
They see me rollin’
They hatin’

Here are a few things I have been thinking about this week. What did Lorraine McFly, think when she first saw a Calvin Klein ad? Why is the company that makes my fan called “Toastmaster?” It seems like it’s doing the opposite of toasting. Do webpages stop existing when we don’t visit them? Like a tree falling in the forest, or if the light bulb turns off when the fridge door closes, the world may never know. So you can either go ask Mr. Owl, or just look at these links and know they do exist in the moment we want them to.

The Essentials: …And Out Come the Wolves

Rancid-And-Out-Come-The-Wolves

In “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World” with impending doom, Keira Knightly’s character grabs several records before fleeing her home with the hopes of listening to them one last time. The Essentials is an ongoing series about the ten, in no particular order, albums I would grab in such a similar situation.

I wish I could say it was The Clash or The Ramones or Fugazi that got me into punk rock, but because I was raised in the suburbs of Golden, Colorado I got into punk like many middle-American suburbanites my age, it was Green Day and the Offispring that ignited the punk rock flame. While these bands got me to the party there was one band that made me want to stay and check it out more, and the band was Rancid.

Happy Friday # 1.6 From Down Town

Is there a mashup of "Down Town" and "Up Town Funk"?
Is there a mashup of Petula Clark’s “Downtown” and “Up Town Funk”?

It’s Friday and the start of a three-day weekend, which means nothing when you’re between jobs, but exciting for the rest of you! But it should be a good weekend, with college football, DVD commentary and the usual Labor Day bbqs! But first we have some minor league baseball, some major league baseball, and Willie Nelson. So jump in and let’s ride this whiskey river.

Happy Friday #1.5: Camp Letter Home Edition

Now we will share a lifetime of the fondest memories By the lakes of Anawanna
Now we will share a lifetime of the fondest memories
By the lakes of Anawanna

Another week has found its way to Friday. I hope your weekend is filled with fun and good times. I will be attending the adult Warped Tour known as Riot Fest to enjoy some punk rock, hip-hop, and that one song by System of the Down I like. But before I get to all that, there’s some internet that needs to be surfed, and you need to look busy while killing a few office hours. Together we overcome these obstacles. Now throw a brick, light the fuse, dodge a bullet, duck inside because I wanna riot!

Happy Friday #1.4: Homophone Addition

For now there are four examples of homophones
For now there are four examples of homophones

One of the things I already miss about work is knowing what day it is. Sure on occasion I would wake up and be off a day, but for the most part I would know. In this first week off I have had to check the calendar several times. Now I’m pretty sure this being posted on Friday, but if not, then happy pre or post Friday. Boy did I devolve into a mess quickly, but that’s enough about me, let’s get to the links.

Happy Friday #1.3 New Day Edition

I said New DAY Edition
I said New DAY Edition

This is a new Friday for me. Assuming you’re reading this Friday morning, I am in the midst of the final hours of my job. Soon I will start suckling at the severance teat. As such, I’m not sure if this is a happy Friday, or exactly what adjective I would use to describe it. It is a Friday. Also, since this is the last day of the Denver office, the internet at work was shut down on Monday. So I wasn’t able to browse the net like normal and scoop up a bunch of links like the sun on the raisin bran box scooping up raisins. I apologize for the short entry today, but next week there should be plenty more. You’re going to benefit from time off.

Happy Friday #1.2: Hot Rod Edition

Everybody pays the piper!
Everybody pays the piper!

When my friend got her puppy and told me her name was Piper my response was, “Like Rowdy Roddy?” She was less than amused. But there was never a moment when Rowdy Roddy Piper didn’t amuse those who watched him in the ring, in Piper’s Pit, or fighting off aliens. Piper was a beloved entertainer, I remember squealing a little when he showed up on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and even watched an episode of Wife Swap because he was on it. He swapped wives with Ric Flair. It’s kind of awesome, sad, and exactly what you expect. I was very sad to hear the news of his passing last Friday. The WWE had this excellent tribute to him on Monday night’s Raw. The best I can do is dedicate this Happy Friday to him. It’s slightly better than nothing.

Now I came here to chew bubble gum and waste your Friday. And I’m all out of bubble gum!

Beautiful Disaster

Catastrophe!

Over the weekend I participated in the 48 Hour Film Project in Denver. This is an annual event in which you are given only 48 hours to write, film, and edit a 4 to 7 minute movie. Friday at 7 p.m. your team randomly chooses a genre and is given the required character, line of dialog, and prop. Then it’s off to the races! I had fun this year and I would like to share my experience.

Happy Friday #1.1: Formal Friday

Formal Friday
Formal Friday

After an unusual week of work, though since I have never closed down an office before, they’re all fairly unusual, it’s time to let loose. But this weekend will involve some work as well, but fun work. Something I look forward to but it will be taxing. More on that in a bit and next week. First let’s get to some time-wasting fun with a physics video, cartoon complaints, and drug testing. Happy Friday, let’s walk this dog.

Bulls On Parade

Small-Town-ParadeThis past Saturday I spent the morning in my hometown of Golden, CO watching the Buffalo Bill’s Day Parade. This is an annual event that has been done for more years than I am even aware of. I went all the time in my youth, and now I go ever so often when my friends take their kids and are kind enough to invite me. It’s a lovely way to spend a morning and I enjoyed myself but left with a few thoughts.
